Exercises and activities such as maximum effort strength
training (90 %
of 1RM above); high intensity plyometric, explosive speed and power drills, such as sprints and jumps, etc., are all very taxing on the CNS and can lead to this
type of overtraining when performed with too much frequency,
volume and intensity.

of advanced knowledge

As a former elite athlete and coach with decades
of experience testing elite athletes, Val learned that the

of the
training load should not be the primary focus, but rather the timing
of when the load is applied.
This is because these
types of splits entail low frequency
training (hitting each muscle group 1x / week) and moderate to low
volume.
Particularly for athletes who tend to break down under too much high
volume (the intensity responders), this
type of drop set can be a great way for them to
train in alignment with their more explosive essence without crushing them.

The second workout
of the day is dedicated to lifting, and I like to cycle through two different
types of lifting; German
Volume Training (GVT), which is essentially ten sets
of ten reps, and then heavier weight and lower rep lifting.
In a normal split, you would do 10 minutes
of hamstring work for this

Volume training.
