I'm heading off today to my local critique groups and I realized I have several different
types of critique groups, each one filling a different need.
Not exact matches
Some
critique groups are able to provide that
type of feedback, but most
groups are set up to give feedback on a chapter at a time so everyone gets a turn.
To gain their approval, writers would grind their way through a learning process that included lots
of words
typed, craft studied, manuscripts
critiqued (by friends, a
group, or a professional freelance editor) and so on.
That, I think, is the one way to get to particular
type of truthfulness in response, an authenticity in reaction, that we're not getting from peers, friends, colleagues, trusted
critique group buddies, parents, siblings, or former English teachers.
