Unluckily, there are too many
ugly book covers out there that no self - respecting author or reader should accept.
Also if the website is ugly or has hundreds of
ugly book covers from other eager author desperate for visibility, stay away.
We can all agree that
ugly book covers are inevitable.
This is unfortunate because indie authors already have a tough time figuring out what makes a «Good Cover» — and if book cover contests like this give prizes to fairly ordinary or even pretty
ugly book covers, the bar will not be raised.
The trick is taking off
the ugly book covers.
It is probably
the ugliest book cover I have ever designed, but if you compare it with the cover from John Piper's book on the right, you'll see why I created the cover as I did.
And because nobody wants it, or because they're scared off by
the ugly book cover, the author can't make any sales.
That's why we have accepted the challenge to change that and hereby declare the death of
the ugly book cover!
An ugly book cover, or no book cover, sends the message to the prospective reader that you're amateurish, lazy, or sloppy.

The biggest mistake is trying to promote an unfinished
book, that hasn't been professionally edited, and that has an
ugly or lack - lustre
cover.
I could pull samples from the 25 top small presses and publishers, showing off their
ugly cover designs, to demonstrate what a poor choice these options are to authors (since the
cover will be the biggest factor in your
book's success, and small presses or services that charge a publishing fee skimp on quality design to make more money for themselves).
Unless you have an
ugly cover, no reviews or a boring
book description.
There are a lot of new solutions out there offering
book cover software, or premade
book cover templates, but a lot of those are also
ugly.
But a lot of indie authors are also publishing poorly written, poorly edited
books with
ugly covers.
Indie authors perversely focus on marketing, social media, and «getting the word out» about their
book because they are loathe to address and fix the real problems (the
book itself may not be very good, or their
cover or website is
ugly, or the
book doesn't have any reviews).
Indie authors are getting better at packaging their
books with a nice
cover and nice formatting, but on the whole, indie author blogs, service sites and communities are
ugly.
The big
ugly yellow one... So I can have a great actual
cover that wins lots of awards (which Sell Your
Book on Amazon has), and I can have an image on Amazon that attracts lots of attention.
Books take years to write, not a day with a hideous flat hook and a cheap
ugly cover smacked on it.

Having an author website, or business cards or bookmarks, or a certain number of print
books included in the package totally doesn't matter if you have an
ugly cover; everything additional won't save you.
The bad thing is that they might put a really
ugly cover on your
book and keep your money.
Indie

ugly covers instead of finding ways to reward beautiful ones?
What the world really needs is a place you can upload your
book cover, and they will tell you just how
ugly it is, and make you a new one for free.
Jupiteration is a fun «don't judge a

cover» wave shooter with
ugly visuals, but solid gameplay and a decent asking price.
