Last month, Maryland
animal control officers seized a woman's pet capuchin monkey from her house
under the suspicion that her monkey was illegal according to Maryland's wild
animal law.
Nothing in this section shall be construed to mean that
Animal Control has sole authority to enforce this section if a complainant wishes to seek recourse
under this section in an appropriate court of
law, or to prevent
Animal Control from conducting its own investigation regarding possible violations of this section.
Publicly funded
animal control agencies also operate
under a range of policies, but because they are charged by
law with protecting the community from dogs that are nuisances or dangerous and because they do no fund - raising around humane issues, they are often denigrated as
animal killers.
The Carroll County Code of Public Local
Laws and Ordinances has specific regulations for keeping dogs in the confines of one's property, including stating that such
animals must be kept restrained or
under adequate
control at all times.
Under general supervision, incumbents are responsible for enforcement of the
animal control laws and ordinances, and for providing care to captured
animals for the City of Oakland.
The Bulldog rescue group «sought specific information as to the LSPCA definitions, policies, procedures, and outcomes related to the evaluation, adoption, and / or euthanasia of surrendered / stray
animals in
control of the LSPCA,» information it was refusing to willingly disclose
under the claim that as a private agency, it was not subject to public disclosure
laws.
After learning the dog was in the city's care, Gorgenyi was contacted by
