To become a lawyer, you need to complete a bachelor's degree, take the LSAT (Law School Admission Test), go to law school, and finally, pass your province's Bar exam and spend a year articling (
training under the supervision of a lawyer).
Most recently, in January of 2013, changes to the Professional Conduct Handbook (now the Code of Professional Conduct), defined a «designated paralegal» and set out an expanded scope of service that these individuals could
perform under the supervision of a lawyer.
