In a recently resurfaced 2016 article from The Atlantic, award - winning director Ava DuVernay
talked about how diversity goals that simply focus on increasing the number of employees who don't identify as straight, white, and male can ring hollow for members of
underrepresented groups with their own unique identities.
However, as a member of two of the most
talked about
underrepresented groups in question (Women and African Americans), I am usually left wondering exactly who is taking note of the recommendations made by such committees and furthermore, who might implement the suggested recommendations?
