understanding in general.»
At one level every hermeneutic is exclusive in practice,
as when «process hermeneutics» centers attention on the metaphysical claims of Biblical texts about the reality of God (e.g., see MEH).2 But «process hermeneutics» refuses to be reductionist in its theory of interpretation,
understanding, and meaning; hence, its inclusive hospitality to «any and all disciplined
methods of interpretation,»
as Kelsey puts it (compare, e.g., RPIPS, especially 106 - 15).
What Whitehead called the «genetic» and the «morphological» manner of thinking, Piaget summarized in the idea of the general
method and interpretation of «genetic structuralism» (ESH 7); both explicitly assert that structure and genesis are interdependent: each structure, from the biological to the cognitive, is to be
understood as the result of a process of formation, which conversely can only be
understood as the continuous development of potential structures (BC 193; S 121).

I am certain that the Socratic
method is a wonderful tool of intellectual exploration — again because I've experienced the effectiveness of pursuing
understanding through questioning
as a group (there are also well known limitations with this
method too).
There are realms of human experience where the scientific
method,
as commonly
understood, is simply not the right instrument to use.
Why make a «god» out of the scientific

as if that is the only means by which we are able to know and
