Free and appropriate public education (FAPE)-- Special education and related services provided pursuant to the federal
Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act
of 2004 for
students with disabilities at public expense, under public supervision, at no charge to the parents and based on the child's
unique needs as set forth in the
student's individualized education program.

New technology is helping special education teachers meet the
unique needs of their
students as well as manage assessment results and data gathering for
Individual Education Programs (IEPs).
Through the gifts
of many generous
individuals and a matching grant from the Charles E. Lakin Foundation, Heartland Family Service was able to put in over $ 1,200,000 worth
of renovations to get the building up to code and ready to serve our
unique population
of students, who have special
needs and major mental health diagnoses.
