The AR5 explanation for the hiatus as given in chapter 9 is basically that
about half of the pause is natural — a small reduction in TSI and more
aerosols from volcanoes, while the other half is
unknown — including perhaps oversensitivity in models.

about but can not quantify, eg ocean heat content and
aerosol cooling, that may or may not act as a pipeline of future warming.
I, on the other hand, am worried
about the impact of a technology that has
unknown consequences for the environment, and which in some regards is definitely known not to work — c.f the fact that it does nothing for ocean acidification, and also the implications of the mismatch in time scale between
aerosols and CO2.
