Leave clamps in place
until the wood glue is dry.
You will want two, or it will pivot a little
until the wood glue dries.
I used painters tape to hold the pieces together,
until the wood glue dried.
The new trim (which was really just pieces of lattice from Home Depot) was cut to size and clamped
until wood glue was good and dry.

And you won't want to try to
glue it to the
wood until it's 100 % dry or it will probably fall off or fall apart.
After
gluing the the two pieces of
wood in position with
wood glue and holding the joint
until it's reasonable stable, drill two pilot holes through the joint so the
wood doesn't split.
Instead I used gorilla
wood glue and then I clamped the boards securely together
until the
glue dried.
