untitled works on paper from 1997 that is rarely shown in its entirety.

Wool's signature text paintings, such as
an untitled work on paper from 1992 reading HOLE IN YOUR FUCKIN HEAD, may well describe what all the scampering and art - absorbing has done to you, but you can lose yourself in some of the master's more abstract works, such as Maybe Maybe Not (2003), and perhaps achieve a moment of calm amidst the H Queen's storm.
The same can be done by overlapping geometric forms or varying line thicknesses, as Benkert did with
his Untitled work on paper from 1967.
In
an untitled work on paper from 1989, Bourgeois drew three fat maggots, their pale bodies stark against a black background.
1904 — 1962), an untitled sculpture (c. 1955) by Ruth Asawa (American, 1926 - 2013), and

Untitled (With Your Best Interest at Heart)(framed acrylic
on paper, 2009) in which the letters themselves adopt interestingly complex configurations even as the act of «reading» the
work becomes a singularly entertaining part of the process.

Diverse as ever, McLean's select exhibition contains two mixed media
works; presented
on the ground floor of the gallery, the
Untitled paintings are comprised of dense, black organic shapes that veer to the abstraction
on neutral backgrounds, adorned with daubs of coloured
paper that
on some sides have been hastily cut and others impatiently ripped, a nod to the rebellious humour of McLean who's body of oeuvre comprises witty sculptures made of rubbish and even his own body.
Since then the 48 - year - old, who has lived in Trinidad since 2005, has given the Tate three other
works, the painting Blue Devils (2014), currently
on show in Tate Britain's free collection displays, and two
works on paper:
Untitled (1998) and a
work commemorating the life of the murdered south London teenager Stephen Lawrence, R.I.P. Stephen Lawrence 1974 - 1993 (2013).
With its arrangement of alternating black and white bands,
Untitled forms part of this remarkable group of
works on paper; as one of the first examples in the series, it evidences the exploratory energy that Newman harnessed to produce his iconic series of paintings.

This subjective indistinctness is even more apparent in
works such as

on paper), all of which carry an enigmatically hazy atmosphere and are reminiscent, by turns, of either dark clouds or Rorschach drawings.
This exhibition joins three important contemporary artists who have each incorporated reminiscences of Pollock into their
works in very different ways: Thomas Demand's
work Barn, is a photograph of a
paper reconstruction based
on the mythical barn used by Pollock as a painting studio; Peter Doig's painting, Daytime Astronomy, takes as its starting point a central figure lying in the grass in an open landscape - the figure is based
on a photograph by Hans Namuth of Pollock lying in the same position; while Andreas Gursky's
work Untitled VI is a photograph of a Pollock painting hanging in the Museum of Modern Art, New York.
In three
works that carry the same title,
Untitled (Bottle Scan) 2002 (pigment print
on watercolor
paper), there is no indication of the images» derivation.
An interesting companion piece to Lot 33 could be Lot 46, a fine
untitled work by Ad Reinhardt (1913 - 1967), that is a 22 - by -30-inch ink, oil watercolor and gouache
on paper, executed in 1949.

Lynn Hershman Leeson's black - and - white images from the 1980s and»90s, included here amongst a large and perhaps purposely slightly cluttered installation of other
works on paper by fellow California artists like Bruce Conner, are yet another example of portraiture and the image of the figure, popping its head (pun intended) into the mass of shapes and images that cover the various booths at
Untitled.
