untreated eye infections to stroke or diabetes.
The women's vision in their
previously untreated eye improved as soon as two weeks after the operation: they could avoid obstacles in dim light, read large print and recognize faces.
The secondary endpoint of change in thickness of the temporal quadrant and papillomacular bundle of the retinal nerve fiber layer from baseline to week 48 demonstrated a large statistically significant difference (p = 0.0359) between all GS010 - treated eyes and all sham - treated eyes,
with untreated eyes showing a loss of 3.4 μm while treated eyes showed a limited loss of 0.6 μm.
In contrast, cone photoreceptors were essentially absent in sham - operated or
untreated eyes at the same time point (Figure 6F).
This study also showed evidence that nanosecond laser treatment in one eye can also produce positive effects in the
other untreated eye.
The critical secondary endpoint of the change in retinal ganglion cell macular volume measured from baseline to week 48 demonstrated a statistically significant difference (p = 0.0189) between all GS010 - treated eyes and all sham - treated eyes, with
untreated eyes losing 0.038 cubic mm of macular ganglion cell volume while treated eyes preserved their ganglion cell volume -LRB--0.003 cubic mm).
Both trials have been adequately powered to evaluate a clinically relevant difference of at least 15 ETDRS letters between treated and
untreated eyes adjusted to baseline.
Blind and feral and somehow surviving on the street, Becky's eyes literally exploded
from untreated eye infections.
Many were suffering from embedded chain collars,
painful untreated eye and dental infections, and severely matted coats encrusted with fecal matter, among other conditions.

In a subsequent study published in February in Science Translational Medicine, the researchers injected functional genes into the
previously untreated eye in three of the women from the first group and followed them for six months.
Untreated eyes had continued to deteriorate.
Over the course of the year - long trial, the patch appeared to stabilise the disease in all four treated eyes, while
the untreated eyes continued to deteriorate.
In the second video made 10 minutes later, the course has been rearranged and
his untreated eye is patched.
The untreated eyes had continued to deteriorate.
The researchers were concerned that re-administering the vector in
the untreated eye of the patients might stimulate an inflammatory response that could reduce the initial benefits in the untreated eye.
As in the first study, retina specialist Albert M. Maguire, M.D., a study co-author and recipient of RPB grant support, injected the vector into
the untreated eyes of the three subjects at The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia.
Importantly we also looked for signals of efficacy and in these patients although, we can't do statistics, we saw improved visual field indices in the treated eye compared to
the untreated eye.
Unexpected improvement in
the untreated eye suggests a bilateral treatment effect to be further investigated
They are also able to compare results from a treated eye to
an untreated eye in the same patient.
Sham - operated eyes also retained significantly better spatial visual acuity than
untreated eyes (0.22 ± 0.03 c / d vs. 0.14 ± 0.02 c / d, p < 0.05), as shown previously.
SC recordings (16 points) opposite the fellow,
untreated eye (left side of figure) served as an internal control.
Overall, cell - injected eyes (n = 10) performed significantly better than
untreated eyes (n = 5) or those receiving sham injections (n = 3)(Figure 4 and Table 2).
