Considering how impractical it is to set
up a full multiplayer game offline, it's ridiculous that the game's
only online feature is comparing scores and
leaderboards.
The
only reason you would want to play the game after completing it would be to climb the
leaderboards which could be fun for some gamers, but most gamers will probably never pick the game
up again.
The fun doesn't stop there, because now you'll need to find a server, but you better choose carefully, because not
only are you in danger of finding a server that could fill
up at any time, but should you find a good server, all your progress is stored onto it; achievements, cloud saves and it's where your
leaderboard listings will be.
While most games reward
only those who simply aim to get kills, Battlefield 3 can allow players who barely got any kills and racked
up a shed - load of deaths to be top of the
leaderboards, providing they supported their team and use their intelligence instead of running in like some sort of drug crazed chimp.
Both main online modes — Ranked Match and Casual Match — now allow players to fight others with or without climbing
up the online
leaderboards, and Battle Lounge also seems to be working as intended, so players can join
up and play a couple of rounds (though it's
only limited to one additional player — adding others beyond that will come in a later update).
You will need some quick reflexes if you want to see your name at the top of the
leaderboard though because if you lose your head, you
only have so long to get it back
up before someone scores on you.
Each room has various challenges to complete which will help boost your
leaderboard rankings and help to boost your skill, and
only last a few minutes, making them perfect to simply load
up for some or to get some practice in.
