Had Apple done something, anything, to help improve sound quality for the masses — which
upgraded Lightning
EarPods would have been a step toward — then the loss of the headphone jack would have at least been partially justifiable.
All the controls, grilles and headphone jack are the same as the iPhone 5 and later as are the bundled
earpods, which we're expecting Apple to
upgrade to have a Lightning connector — or be Bluetooth — when the new iPhone 7 debuts in the Autumn.
As for compatibility, when trying to connect the Lightning
EarPods with IPad mini which updated to IOS 10.2, can be successfully be used, however when trying to connect to IPhone 6 with IOS 9, which appears it shows not supported, so if you want to use this on an older device, you must
upgrade to iOS 10.
