I think that the dark lower cabinets will actually provide an anchor in the room with the white
upper cabinets making things feel more spacious.
Removing most of
the upper cabinets made it feel like I doubled my usable counter space — I find it is much more enjoyable to work at a counter without a cabinet overhead.
At this point they decided that they would lose the curved profile on the upper cabinets... yes... that curve is so outdated... and have new
upper cabinets made to made the squared profile of the lower cabinets.

I have long been a fan of raising
upper cabinets, just
makes the space feel roomier.

upper cabinets are unusually shallow, like around 11 inches, and have a lip in the back that
makes them even more shallow.
