The movement towards a cleaner look in the kitchen has meant eliminating
upper cabinets when they're not needed for storage space.
We obviously lost a few of
our upper cabinets when we removed the wall they were located on, but I don't know if I would have been able to ditch the rest of our upper cabinets.
People removed
these upper cabinets when remodeling these 1960s homes in the 1990s and 2000s.

They told us to keep a phone in the kitchen (preferably one where there was a speaker so that we could hear the 911 operator), tape the CPR directions, emergency phone numbers (poison control, etc), and our address to the inside of an
upper cabinet door (lots of parents blank on their address
when their kids are having a medical emergency), and lay the baby on the hard counter underneath for CPR.
When your cat is acclimated to your home, you may be surprised to find him on top of the
upper kitchen
cabinets, so make sure there's nothing on display there or on other high shelves that can be damaged or knocked off.
I did 12 inch deep bookcases over 24 inch deep lower closed cupboards and found that extra horizontal space atop the lower
cabinets very useful for additional serving space or just a place to put things

I have had 1950's
cabinets painted white forever, removed some
uppers for a more updated look, but there is only so much you can do with no money and the square dimensions
when radiators take up a whole wall.

Another thing we've really noticed about not having
upper cabinets in that area is the impression of much more counter space
when you are preparing a meal!
When you got rid of your
upper cabinets where do you store your dishes I do not have a pantry but it appears I have about as much
cabinet space as you and then we have a bar that breaks up the kitchen and dinning room the bar does collect a lot of clutter but I am not sure what I would do with out it, but it is a thought we also have a fire place in the dinning room but it is almost hidden by the table and chairs I swear if we didn't have a place to pile things my family couldn't live.
When combining different types of cabinetry in the same room, keep lower
cabinets darker and
upper cabinets light.

upper house didn't really have a laundry room
when we bought it, but my hubby said he could make his 8x8 «office» space with all his work clothes, the washer and dryer, a file
cabinet and the dog supplies... work... Bad idea!
But
when I get the
cabinets at my reuse center for $ 5
uppers, and $ 10 lowers?
Then one day
when I was out of town Nathan, his two brothers, and a friend decided to tear down the remaining
upper cabinets, the microwave, and the backsplash.
When we started designing the Gentry kitchen, I knew that in addition to our
upper cabinets, we wanted to use open shelving to help keep everything light and airy.

when we leave, he will just put them back on.
