ALBANY — A fourth
upstate casino authorized as part of a gambling expansion in New York is on target to open early next year, the state Gaming Commission's Acting Executive Director Ron Ochrym said Monday.
The two other
planned upstate casinos, Montreign in the Catskills and Rivers in Schenectady, have touted estimated investments of more than $ 600 million and $ 300 million respectively.
No casinos would be built in New York City, and none could be built downstate until at least five years after the
first upstate casino opens.
A mandatory meeting on Wednesday attended by representatives of the companies behind 22
upstate casino proposals featured questions only.
With no comment or debate, the New York state Gaming Commission signed off on a plan to seek bids on what would be a fourth
upstate casino yesterday — the same day that a new study indicated that tax revenues nationwide from such facilities are slowing.
