And you could see a more conservative candidate pull a chunk
of upstate votes while a more moderate one does better downstate.
However, Democrats have been steadily gaining throughout the state, and Sen. Chuck Schumer, for example, is proof that a statewide pol with a distinctly downstate sensibility can
win upstate votes if he puts his mind to it.

the upstate vote hard since last August.

the upstate vote and 68 percent of the Big Apple.
