With this in mind, research has found that starting a shoulder shrug in 30
of glenohumeral abduction (i.e., arms slightly out to the sides), which is a component
of slight scapula
upward rotation, generated greater upper trapezius muscle activity in comparison with the shrug with the arms at the side (1).
Stability comes with the evenness in both feet; the strength, straightness, and
rotation of the front leg; a strong
upward lifting action
of both legs; and a firmness
of the back leg and heel.
In some coastal areas
of the ocean (and large lakes such as the North American Great Lakes), the combination
of persistent winds, Earth's
rotation (the Coriolis effect), and restrictions on lateral movements
of water caused by shorelines and shallow bottoms induces
upward and downward water movements.
