From the historical perspective, the lingering impacts of underground
uranium mining on the health and lands of the Navajo people are most often cited by community leaders as one of the principal reasons why so many Diné disfavor new uranium development by any method, including the in situ leach (ISL) technique.

on mining activities by authorizing
uranium exploration within a million acre buffer zone around Grand Canyon National Park.
Jasim Ahmed, head of the IAEA radiation safety section, says the mission will concentrate

The October 2 - 13, 1996 trip to Chita was planned in order to provide current information
on environmental management and policy aspects of mineral development, particularly
uranium mining, at the level of expertise and detail provided to the Russian delegation to New Mexico.
