I understand if it doesn't work for you though in my recipes I often
use it for the specific sweetness or stickiness, so sometimes nut
butters (almond, cashew or tahini) can work as a substitute or other oils (olive) or other sticky beauties (dates,
figs etc).
I
used what I had on hand: adriatic
figs instead of strawberries and coconut milk and raw almond
butter instead of the soaked nuts and water and it still turned out amazing!
Sarah I think you might be surprised but you can
use fig jam or even dried
figs if you can't get the
butter ir fresh
figs.
If desired, swap out the
figs for dates and
use homemade hemp
butter in lieu of sunflower
butter.
I've also
used fresh
figs, assorted berries, a drizzle of coconut
butter, and hemp seeds.
I recommend Purely Elizabeth granola, coconut flakes, fresh berries or
figs, and a drizzle of your favorite nut
butter (I used the beautiful blue algae Pearl Bu
butter (I

ButterButter).
I couldn't fit all of the roasted almond
butter into the tupperware I'd planned to
use, so I left it in the vitamix and added a few of the dates and
figs you sent back with me, unsweetened cocoa powder, oats, unsweetened coconut shreds, vanilla and walnuts.
Using a
butter knife or small offset spatula, spread
fig mostarda mixture evenly across 6 slices of bread, working all the way to edges.
The original
fig bar recipe calls for coconut oil in the «dough» part instead of the almond
butter that I
used in my adapted version.
I was feeling a bit too lazy for the
fig butter (it would have required a trip to the grocery store) so I
used apple
butter instead.
The scone recipe requires only half the amount of
fig butter made here, so reserve the remaining spread for your morning toast — or
use all the
fig butter at once by doubling the scone recipe.
i played with the
fig butter and
used lighter dried
figs, tawny port, and a few other aromatics instead of the star anise.
