I use liquid smoke for my vegan bacon bits, and they turn out incredibly.
A different taste but just as addicting and we actually probably won't
use the liquid smoke again because without it the richness of the maple and othe other more subtle seasoning notes come out to be VIP.

Only one thing I would change is to not
use the liquid smoke.
For example, if I'm making a hearty stew, I might throw in some dried herbs, of if I'm replacing pork in a recipe, I might

I do love the smokey taste (Smoked Gouda, you are my favorite) but usually
use liquid smoke to replicate the flavor.
If
you use Liquid Smoke and a BBQ marinade (I love McCormick's Grill Mates BBQ Seasoning) you will get some of the BBQ flavor.

If you're not comfortable with
using Liquid Smoke, use some smoked paprika instead.

used green bell pepper and banana peppers in lieu of jalepenos, and added

As the other reviewers said, this is so easy to put in the crockpot and forget it... I couldn't find a
smoked turkey leg, so
used a regular turkey leg, and added about 1 T of
liquid smoke.

use in the sauce, and wow!
so
used normal paprika and a little chipotle sauce, didn't have apple cider vinegar so
used mirin, white vinegar and a sprinkle of lemon juice, for sugar I
used muscovado, normal brown sugar and maple syrup, for
liquid smoke I
used smoke salt (I
used reduced salt soy sauce for the most part) and
used powdered garlic and onion.
Stir in the garlic, ginger, soy sauce, sesame oil,
liquid smoke, if
using, and scallion.
Stir in the ketchup, tomato sauce, cider vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, lemon juice, pineapple juice (if
using), hot sauce,
liquid smoke, molasses, brown sugar, prepared and dry mustards, black pepper, and 1 cup of water and bring to a boil.
I
use it in a ton of recipes and it's a cheaper way than
liquid smoke to add smoky flavour to chilies, tofu bacon, soups and stews.
I would
use gluten, and flavor it with soup stock (onions, garlic, mushrooms) but I'm not sure how to get it smoky without
liquid smoke - i'm not sure it would stand up to actually
smoking it.
I too, have a severe soy allergy, but I have found coconut
liquid amino, which you can
use instead, or you can
use vegan Worcestershire sauce mixed with some coconut oil, I also add a half of cup of brown rice flour and a can of pickled beets mashed in for «corned beef», and BBQ ribz and a can of sweet potato for»
smoked turkey» and both with some tomato paste for hot linkz.
Add the tomato paste, beef stock, balsamic vinegar, apple cider vinegar, brown mustard, garlic cloves, and
liquid smoke (if
using) to the slow cooker.
Another option would be to omit the
liquid smoke and
use smoked paprika, or a bit of chipotle powder, if either of those is available to you.
I didn't
use any pine nuts in mine, but made two different versions with each of the balls — one with zaatar and extra garlic mixed into the cheese and toasted sesame seeds around the exterior, and one with sun - dried tomatoes and
liquid smoke mixed in with the cheese and basil around the exterior.
I omitted the salt (plenty in the soy sauce and I
used Braggs) and reduced the
liquid smoke to 1/4 tsp and also added 1/2 tsp rosemary and 1/2 tsp thyme.
Any Idea what to
use as a substitute for the
liquid smoke?

used a garbanzo / Ava blend flour, rolled oats instead of bran and a little more of the spices and nutritional yeast.
