But according to a new study from the payments company Blackhawk Network, some consumers are stepping up
their use of alternative payment methods and choosing to pay with devices such as their mobile phones or smart watches instead.
While credit cards remain a popular payment option for consumers, two consumer trends are working to dampen credit card volume: a broad movement towards debt reduction, and greater
use of alternative payment methods.

Availability
payments, for example, are one
of the most widely
used alternative financing
methods for infrastructure in the world.
Some
of these users may no longer wish to
use the SBSCH and may contact their super fund to discuss
alternative SuperStream compliant
payment methods.
According to the survey
of 1,000 adult consumers, 18 percent said they
use an
alternative payment method, such as Apple Pay, Samsung Pay, a mobile wallet, a wearable
payment device such as a smart watch, or bitcoins for at least some
of their everyday purchases.
Meanwhile, consumers between the ages
of 18 and 24 were more likely than other age groups who preferred to
use PayPal and other
alternative payment methods, signaling that
alternative payments could be gaining traction with younger groups.
