use of flax seeds — cottage cheese, flax seed oil and fresh ground flaxseed mixed in my Nutribullet.
Hippocrates wrote about making
use of flax for relieving stomach pains.
So if you can replace
the use of flax seeds by Chia seeds, you will benefit more.
I appreciated
the use of flax instead of powdered egg replacer, which I saw in many other recipes, but don't have on hand.
I think that the vegan swaps may make for a denser and moister cake than the original (though I must admit I have not tried Sara's original recipe), probably because of
the use of flax eggs and maple syrup.
I love the creative
use of flax for the «fried» ice cream.

use a
flax egg to bind instead
of the coconut oil which is very high in saturated fat!

use exactly the same fruit and veg for my favourite smoothie, but I have never thought
of adding chia or

I made a loose variation on these (subbing beet pulp and almond flour for the millet) and I
used cashew cream in place
of the ricotta & three
flax eggs to make them vegan > not as perfect as the original, but turned out pretty well.

Not sure, Becki, as I've never
used egg replacement myself, but apparently people get great result with «
flax eggs», which consists
of flax seed meal mixed with water.
A couple
of things that could contribute to the batter being thicker than expected: - Not letting the
flax egg fully set - Not
using the exact flour blend in the recipe (I have not tested this with other flours, only the ones in my blend)- Dipping the measuring cup into the flour vs. spooning it into the measuring cup - The flour not being at room temperature (if it's from the fridge or freezer, it will be dryer and will suck up the moisture).

Flax seeds can be
used just like chia seeds and have more omega 3 fatty acids than most forms
of fish.
I add
flax meal to muffins and breads, not to mention
use it in white sauce, substituting part
of the flour....

uses chickpeas, almonds, wheatberries and
flax and tastes better than most normal waffles chock full
of butter... yeah, it's pretty easy to put
flax into stuff, I've just been forgetting to do it lately.
Flaxseeds are seeds
of the
flax plant, a fiber crop that is
used to make linen fabrics.
I mix ground
flax seeds into my steel cut oats for breakfast, I
use whole and ground
flax seeds in my homemade granola, and I usually
use a couple
of tablespoons in my baked goods — in addition to the health benefits I find they add a pleasant texture to muffins and quickbreads.
Dietary needs forced me to make a few substitutions, I
used Udees GF Oats, Pumpkin Purée for the yogurt, ground chia for the
flax seeds, pumpkin pie spice in place
of cinnamon, soymilk for the milk and added it sparingly until I got the right consistency.
Cranberry Orange I
use ground
flax meal as a substitute for the gluten a lot
of the time as well, but I tried
using it with these muffins and the nutty flavor that they impart, that I usually like, didn't work as well.
I didn't
use gums or an extra egg yolk, instead I
used ground
flax seed as part
of my flours.
Lately, I've been making it vegan
using flax seed meal instead
of the egg and Earth Balance butter substitute.
I veganized it and
used a
flax egg instead
of a regular chicken egg and it still turned out great.
A bunch

used a

Add in the reserved 1 Tbsp
of flax meal, chickpeas, tahini, lemon juice, olive oil, coconut sugar, garlic, red pepper flakes, salt and herbs (if
using).
I only had 1 cup
of oats and no
flax seeds so I
used 1.5 cups
of regular flour and 1 egg.
Replace the milk with almond milk (or your preferred non-dairy milk), you could
use canola oil instead
of melted butter, you could try a «
flax egg» in place
of the egg.
