Using kilz oil base primer should keep the cabinets from yellowing and limit the paint chipping after the whole process because it's sealing in all of the dark color and oil base paint is more durable than latex.
It's key to use an oil based stain covering primer that will allow the top coat to stick to it.

One tip to note about using this primer: use a cheap brush while applying this oil - based primer — it is a huge hassle to clean the primer off of a brush so I choose to just use a cheap one that I can toss afterwards.
