I'm on my second batch of homemade vanilla and I've heard that if you
use vodka (I did because it's cheap), you should add some bourbon or
rum at the end to improve the depth of the
flavor.
You could
use the orange juice with a little
rum flavoring, I suppose, to avoid the
rum... Have you tried that?
Mojitos are similar to margaritas in that they both
use lime to impart citrus
flavor, but a mojito adds fresh mint and
uses a white or clear
rum instead of tequila.
I didn't
use bourbon but rather a tablespoon of dark
rum, and figure next time I'll
use a tablespoon of «
rum flavoring» instead to see how that works.
I look forward to trying this with the spiced

using other liquor

I was considering
using a
flavored rum, most likely coconut.
I especially like
using the vanilla -
rum extract for things with chocolate — like choc chip cookies or brownies, and the vanilla - vodka extract for foods with more delicate
flavors.
While I liked spice
rum in here, you'll get a more pronounced
rum flavor if you choose to
use a dark
rum, such as Meyers.
