If you don't want the stain to bleed through, then yes
use shellac over the piece or at least in the areas you want color.
Love the price, ease of mixing, and application is great - I am having Bleed Thru of the Tanins of my piece - So, hoping to not have to
use Shellac (b / c of the fumes).
After rolling one coat over the table with a foam / sponge roller I knew that I did NOT need to
use shellac since the Chalk Paint ® covered the burn mark 100 %.

Another reason to
use shellac: Painting Chalk Paint ® over a previously painted surface that has some type of effect — will most likely pass through to the Chalk Paint ®.
You have to
use shellac first.
After all of that is cleaned I would
use a shellac based primer... like BIN 1 -2-3.

use shellac with chalk paint.
Buchsbaum is proficient in Excel, but he uses the program the way a woodworker
uses shellac: «to finish things,» he says.
But
using shellac is a necessity for many jobs and something to consider - is what color Chalk Paint ® are you using in your project.
I washed these down and
used shellac to prevent bleed through.
IF - after the first coat of Chalk Paint ®, you see bleeding of wood stain or wood tannins (and remember, there is a difference between «bleeding» versus you not applying a thorough coat of paint and seeing the paneling beneath)-- reference THIS POST ABOUT

I would consider
using shellac on the cabinets.
Using shellac will also help if the piece stinks!

You could have
used whatever lineup and tactics you wanted, and they still would've gotten
shellacked.
I love the way they last, and my nails don't chip and split when I am wearing the
Shellac polish, but there is something about the chemicals
used in the removal process that bothers me and makes me feel like I'm taking a step backwards in the nail health department.
A lot of companies
use unnecessary fillers and preservatives as well as coatings and
shellacs, which can severely irritate someone struggling with gut issues or less obvious food intolerances, too.
Use of clean products, free of fillers, binders, excipients, flow agents,
shellacs, coloring agents, gluten and lactose and other allergens.
I am now in the process of attempting to
use a special odor sealing
shellac that will hopefully kill this nefarious odor once and for all... otherwise I will have to trip these darling stools and start all over... I will not recommend my Howard t Home chalk paint to anyone for this very reason.
I
use the clear
shellac by zinsser to prevent knotting (the stain bleeding through).
If not, you can definitely
use Zinsser
Shellac to seal it.
When done
using spray paint or a spray
shellac - go outside and holding the can, flip it upside down and spray.
Never shake the
shellac in the can, but rather
use a stir stick and mix well and note that
shellac has a shelf life of about a year to 18 months.
Then - blow off the surface of all dust and
use Zinsser Clear
Shellac (again, I like the aerosol cans - but you have to
use it outside) and applit in a thorough coat over the whole piece.
By
using a lint free rag - folding it like a hankerchief, then dipping the edge in - and wiping the
shellac on — starting the farthest away from you.
But you do not want any wind or dust happening when
using this stuff - or any spray paint,
shellac or polyurethane.
Do this step outside if
using the spray
shellac since the
shellac has a serious strong odor - but the smell goes away quick and dries in minutes.
Do not shake the
shellac but rather stir it or roll the container in your hands prior or
use a stir stick.
Use clear
shellac as a primer instead.)
If there is bleed through of the tannins or stain in the wood after one coat of chalk paint, you should
use clear
shellac over the surface first, let dry, then apply another layer of chalk paint.
