leg exercises have been added for added
leg muscle stimulation, and improved stability while
using dumbbells.
In addition to regularly
using a foam roller to stretch the IT band, runners should also start a strength routine that includes
exercises such as
single -
leg balance moves, side
leg lifts and clamshells.
These
exercises are the 7
single leg exercises that I
use frequently in my own workouts.
Just to give you an idea, I
use 12 - 15 pounds most times as I'm doing this
single leg exercise.
Two other excellent
single leg exercises you could
use instead of split squats are lunges and step - ups.
Since strength is specific, then: strength training under neutrally stable conditions (such as during free weight training, especially
using single -
leg exercises) should lead to superior gains in COD ability than strength training
using very stable (machines) or very unstable (stability ball) conditions.
Although it is called a
single -
leg exercise, it still
uses both
legs.
