I have a little more of an issue than you did in that I really
use my upper cabinets.
We used the upper cabinets because they are narrow and placed them directly on the floor, wedging them up slightly.
She also asked about how to create a more «open feel», and mentioned that she only
uses the upper cabinets on the right side of the room to store things she doesn't really need to get to.

used as often are simply cleaned up as needed, or just prior to
use, which is actually what I would have to do even if we had
cabinet doors.
