I use white refined sugar, but I am looking for a more healthy way to get the sweetness I like.

You'll see that they're
using coconut
sugar instead of plain
white sugar, which keeps things naturally sourced and avoids
using sugar that's been heavily
refined.
I
used a light brown
sugar, partly because it has a wonderful flavour and partly because it's less
refined then
white sugar.
To keep these muffins on the guiltless spectrum, I
used a combination of organic, raw
sugar and maple syrup instead of
refined white and brown
sugars.
Trying to keep things a little healthier I
used a mix of wholemeal and
white flours and also
used the less
refined muscodavo
sugar.
You can substitute your preferred
sugar 1:1, such as
refined white sugar or coconut
sugar (which has more of an unrefined, molasses - quality taste) but please take note that if you prefer to
use a liquid sweetener such as agave nectar, it can change the consistency and taste of my recipe.
Of course, when choosing my sweetener, artificial sweeteners are out, and I no longer
use bleached and
refined white sugar, so there was no reason to look for any other sweetener than the honey called for in the original recipe that I found.
Fab flavour combos, orange
white choc and cranberry always go great together — I also
used raw honey in place of agave as I believe its a more natural, unrefined sweetner (agave isnt as innocent as you might think — read up about it) As for those of you who wanted to know about the
white choc chips, well I avoid all dairy and
refined sugars so I simply made my own, its dead easy — simply combine pure raw cacao butter (gently melted) with a pinch of celtic salt, a little extract of vanilla and some raw cashew butter, then freeze in a suitable container before breaking into chunks!!!!! yummy You can make dark chocolate chips even easier by melting pure coconut oil and stirring in a little vanilla, honey and raw cacao powder before freezing!!!

white flour substitutions I
use most often.
Because raw
sugar is less
refined, it is often
used as a smarter, healthier choice relative to regular
white sugar.
Luckily, I didn't bake much before I started eating healthily, so I've never actually
used white flour or
refined sugar in my baked goods.

However, there are still a number of things about Emeril's recipe that aren't healthy choices like the
use of cake flour,
refined sugar,
white salt, and nonstick cooking spray (yikes).

use refined sugar and

Pancakes can be a really healthy snack, particularly if you avoid
using white flour,
sugar, cow's milk and similar
refined ingredients.

refined white sugar, personally I think it gives the coffee a more enhanced flavor.

refined flour that has had all of the good stuff stripped out of it — it has a fraction of the fiber, protein, and minerals, and far more simple
sugars that can cause your hamster's blood
sugar to spike.
