used the full amount of
pasta (swapping out
whole grain rotini, because that's what I had on hand), doubled the spinach but did not saute it, tripled the garlic,

whole can of beans, increased the mustard to 2T, and added 2T each of chopped fresh basil, finely - shredded Grana Padano cheese, and pine nuts.
I

pasta too and think it tastes great — just needs a lot of rinsing, although after last night, I am thinking it ought to be raw zucchini more often!
I guess this all boils down to completely cutting out refined carbohydrates (i.e. white bread, white
pasta, white rice) and even limiting the
use of wholegrain carbohydrates (i.e. wholemeal bread, wholewheat
pasta, brown rice) as Brenda Davis appears to consider even these as not the best of the
whole grains hierarchy (certainly better than most, of course, but perhaps should still be
used sparingly in the diet).
The Senate Appropriations Committee recently approved bipartisan legislation (PDF) that would prevent the USDA from enacting more stringent sodium requirements in schools until further research is conducted, require the USDA to identify alternative products that schools can
use when
whole grain pastas and breads are not available, and require the department to offer training and technical assistance to schools struggling to meet the nutrition requirements.
