I tried making vegan yoghurt (oat) but
used dairy culture as starter as I wanted the tart flavor which is found in dairy yoghurt that I love.
You can certainly
use a dairy culture as a starter for coconut milk!

Can you
use store - bought coconut milk yogurt as a starter
culture, or does that not work like it does for
dairy yogurt?
Each of our milk powders are manufactured by spray - drying fresh
dairy ingredients and can be
used in a wide variety of applications such as
cultured milk products, chocolate, ice cream, confectionary, meat, breads and biscuits.
I
use creme fraiche because I typically only consume
cultured dairy (and I like to make my own), but heavy cream works well as a substitute.
The microorganisms
used in the
dairy industry are called starter
cultures.
In spite of regulations saying that milk from cows treated with antibiotics must not be sent to the
dairy, you may find sufficiently high levels of antibiotics in bulk tank milk to stop or retard growth of the starter

used directly in production, without any further propagation at the

The company says there are no traces of protein in the finished probiotic supplement but I wanted to mention it because my son FINALLY got better when we stopped
using «
dairy free» probiotics that we're
cultured on
dairy.
Lots of people
use almond milk or coconut milk, and while these are fine substitutes if you absolutely can't tolerate
dairy (even
cultured ones), they often leave a recipe lacking.
Only plant material
used in
culture medium; no
dairy or soy.
DAIRY AND GLUTEN FREE YOGURT: The highest quality and pure LAB
cultures are
used in this formula.
If this is the case for you,
use cultured dairy like yogurt, kefir or raw milk cheese (legal!)
It is a necessity in
cultures that do not
use milk because only stock made from bones and
dairy products provides calcium in a form that the body can easily assimilate.
