I've also
used dumbbell swings or kettlebell swings for these 5 - minute drills and they work great.

It's the same as trying to
swing the
dumbbell by
using acceleration.
Be sure to
use good form, don't
swing the
dumbbells and don't
use momentum to curl the weight.
There are many people out there who try transforming their
dumbbell fly into a quasi-press, or just
swing their
dumbbells using the momentum in order to handle the weights, when they should be focused on muscle work.

As a matter of fact, I don't even
use cardio machines anymore for warmups before a workout (I did before occasionally)... Nowadays, I prefer to do
dumbbell or kettlebell snatches and
swings mixed with bodyweight exercises as the perfect full body warmup at the beginning of my workouts.
As a result, practically any exercise you do with it — from conventional strength movements like presses and squats to more unique kettlebell exercises like
swings and snatches — is going to require stricter form and more muscle activation than you could get away with
using a
dumbbell.

Swings and Cleans
using Grip - intensive equipment such as Thick Bar
Dumbbells, and with Thick Rope Training, such as sled pulls.
So, back to our poor fellow wildly
swinging dumbbells around in a half - baked attempt at bicep curls — by
using his whole body's momentum to move the weight, all the focus on the biceps is eliminated, and the muscles are likely not getting any significant workout at all, and certainly not getting an effective one.
