You guys, I've never
used furniture wax before.
I stained the top and
use the furniture wax to protect the surface and so far it looks beautiful and added a nice sheen without being shiny.

waxing wood floors, I am completely against
using it on

I always
use Annie Sloan Chalk Paint clear
wax, and I
use the clear
wax on all of the painted
furniture that I do, including the dining table.
Some clear
waxes tend to turn your white painted
furniture a dingy color... so if you want it to be pure white, I'd
use a white
wax.
I've also seen some
furniture painters out there attempt to
use dark
wax and end up making it look splotchy and dirty.
Minwax makes a clear
furniture wax but I have only
used Annie Sloan.
Her
waxes are
used for protection and durability and to give a beautiful mellow finish to painted
furniture, cabinets, and walls.
Jan, I have tried many products to
use over chalk paint, several
waxes then I switched to polycrylic top coats and have tried several, the best I've ever
used is Polyvine Decorator's Varnish Dead Flat Finish — it DOES NOT yellow, I just
used over two big pieces of
furniture painted in Pure White and Off White and absolutely no yellowing.
I recently decided to stop
using wax as well on
furniture pieces.
My son, who is an antique
furniture restorer and French polisher would agree with all you say about
waxing he would always
use varnish of one type or another but then again he rarely
uses chalk paint Margaret
I chalk painted my first piece of
furniture (a buffet table) and
used a
wax sealer.
You likely already know this but just in case, if you
use dark
wax first (opposed to clear then dark then clear again) I've read countless times dark
wax will stain the
furniture and I'm not sure how you'd resolve that if you ever wanted to change the look.
How about if I
use AS chalk paint and
use dark
wax to age the
furniture and seal it with General Finishes?
I once painted a piece of
furniture using a matte paint and
used some paste
wax on top and it didn't do well, ended up looking yellow.
Finally to protect the chalk paint of the cabinet upcycle
use Annie Sloan's
furniture wax.

use a quality
furniture wax or polish at least once a year; avoid chemical products.

furniture belonged to my parents so I felt the same way as you, I wanted to try to make it work somehow... I sure did
use ASCP on the hutch — It's Old White with clear
wax and then a bit of dark
wax over that.
Use the paint and
wax at room temperature and make sure the
furniture piece you are painting is AT ROOM TEMPERATURE.

In fact - our technical trainer has been a guru in the
furniture capital of the USA for years - she shared with me that «when
wax is first «harvested» it is in a hard form... so hard that it can rarely be
used that way.
For
furniture and cabinetry, I personally feel that
wax is so much easier to
use versus Lacquer.

using the minwax

Here's a great tip; if you've never
used colored
wax, I highly recommend doing some experimenting with it before you apply it to a piece of
furniture.
So there is nothing nicer out there in the marketplace to
use on
furniture than Annie Sloan's Soft
Waxes!
I fully agree with your top - coat recommendations; I have
used wax on
furniture but polycrylic on kitchen cabinets is the more durable way to go.
You can
use hemp oil,
furniture wax, petroleum jelly, a
wax puck, canning
wax or candle
wax.
If you have
waxed your
furniture piece but prefer a higher gloss finish, you can
use a clean cloth to buff the piece by wiping back and forth or in a circular motion across the piece until it's shiny.
The combination of properties leads to many applications, including
use in food, cosmetics, automobile and
furniture wax, molds for semiconductor devices, and as a coating for dental floss.
Get a little on my finger, then
use it to rub the
wax onto the
furniture in a very thin coat only where I want chipping.

used on
furniture and followed up
using the
wax and distressing.

What I will tell you is I love
furniture wax (Annie Sloan & Minwax Paste Finishing
Wax are my faves)... and you can get a shiny finish
using it by buffing when your piece is ready.
