used peace bonds sparingly.

While we have never had to
use it, we are

peace of mind when you leave your pet in our care.
A common law
peace bond on the other hand is issued
using the courts common law jurisdiction and is not rooted in any statute.
It is common practice for
peace bonds to be
used in some domestic violence courts in Alberta where the defendant has been charged with a domestic violence - related offence that is relatively minor and there is a low risk of reoffending, if he is willing to accept responsibility for the offence and undergo counselling (see e.g. Leslie Tutty and Jennifer Koshan, «Calgary's Specialized Domestic Violence Court: An Evaluation of a Unique Model» (2013) 50 Alberta Law Review 731 at 745).
Similar to some security certificate cases, recent amendments to the Criminal Code's
peace bond provisions provide that reasonable conditions could include prohibitions on the
use of the internet,
use of electronic monitoring, curfews and geographic restrictions.
While Canada has not yet
used preventive arrests and
peace bonds for suspected terrorists, these legal instruments remind us that the criminal law, like immigration law, has preventive aspirations.
