I cooked the traditional - style split pea soup all the time
using a crock pot and smoked
turkey instead of
ham hock.
With this one I added a bit of julienned deli
ham and
turkey and microwaved the bacon and the bread because it was too hot to
use the stove.
I made this today, following your idea, but I
used Jimmy Dean cooked
turkey sausage crumbles in place of the
ham, I had thin sliced swiss cheese so I
used that like lasagna noodles and layered it.
I also
used a smoked
turkey leg as I could not get
ham hock.
You can
use left over
ham or
turkey in this dish instead of chicken, making it a great dish to make with holiday leftovers.
They are
used to achieve the halo / ring affect in roast beef, the smoked color in Black Forest
hams, and the golden yellow color in chicken breast and
turkey.
Using deli
turkey or
ham instead of bread not only makes these snack wraps gluten - free, it also gives them an extra protein boost.

I have 3!!!! I
use things like bananas, bagels, pasta (Dr's suggestion to put some meat on their bones), pb & j,
ham or
turkey sandwiches, cheese, tortillas, beans, rice and potatoes, lots of fruits... especially apples and citrus (oranges, tangerines, mandarins), granola bars.

Find yummy treats — canned chicken cut up in very small kibble - size pieces works nicely, but you can
use deli
turkey or
ham, tiny pieces of cheese or any treat that your cat really wants.
