RIM has stated clearly it is
using PlayBook's OS, based on its acquisition from
QNX, to deliver BlackBerry OS 10 for smartphones.
Now while I don't totally disagree with everything Kevin said, I do find that for me it was definitely worth the upgrade, and since I haven't had the same issues he experienced with his device (ie the trackpad problem), I'll continue to
use it until the next big thing comes down the line (
QNX Berry anyone?).
I was

QNX car display has the same web browser as the PlayBook, some familiar looking applications and even the same App World icon that we are
used to seeing.
QNX powers the BlackBerry PlayBook as well as the now available BlackBerry Z10 and will be
used in future BlackBerry 10 devices.
The rumor is that RIM is considering to
use Dalvik virtual machine for their
QNX OS on the PlayBook and mobiles, which is the same as what Android currently
uses.
Although the BlackBerry OS is still widely
used and being developed for, BlackBerry announced on September 27th, 2010 their new operating system, BlackBerry 10, is based on
QNX.
RIM has just released a video showing off the ways that business professionals can make
use of the BlackBerry PlayBook, a
QNX tablet.
With Celestica moving away from BlackBerry hardware production, this only serves to add to RIM's growing short - term problems, as the company is attempting to weather the transition from its current platform in OS 7, being the last version of the Java - based platform that it began
using in 2003 to BBX, which is the
QNX - based platform which shares major underpinnings with the BlackBerry PlayBook while also adding features common to iOS and Android, but will not be released until this Fall, after initially being targeted for a February launch.
It runs a new operating system developed by
QNX Software that supports symmetric multiprocessing with
use of the
QNX Neutrino microkernel architecture.
