Apple season has finally arrived, which means it's time for apple pie, apple cider, and a better excuse to eat peanut butter out of the jar (
using an apple slice as your spoon makes it healthier, right?)
I used some apple slices instead and baked it in two loaf pans.
You can
use apple slices to scoop it up or simply eat it with a fork.

While some bruised
apples can be
used in juice or in pre-packaged
apple slices, «there's a huge amount of food that is thrown away or not
used.»
This will be a great sauce replacement for cheese fondue that I also
use to love... dip some bread, pretzels, veggies and
apple slices in it... yum!

This recipe
uses the same process as my strawberry banana baked oatmeal, except that I'm
using sliced apples and cinnamon instead of
sliced strawberries and vanilla.

used a few
slices of
apples vs. a whole
apple in the spiral version.
Continue to layer the
apples until you have
used all the
apple slices.

slice the
apples thinly (but not too thin so that it falls apart).
One great tip:
used one of those garden variety egg slicers to quickly, evenly

One of my favorite sweet treats that my mama
use to make, and one I still love today is taking a piece of
apple pie, topping it with a big
slice of cheddar cheese and putting it under the broiler until the cheese melted all over the pie.

First, you have to

using a mandolin, which resulted in a pretty nasty cut to my thumb (those things are dangerous, be warned).

I
used one large Empire
apple (I made a half - recipe)- I've never shredded an
apple before and wasn't sure texture-wise how it would turn out so I
sliced it thin and then
sliced into matchsticks.
Directions: Peel and
slice apples (yellow transparents tend to cook down so I made my really chunky) / Fill bottom crust half - way with
apples / Sprinkle with some of the sugar and cinnamon / Continue to fill with
apples creating a mound on top / Sprinkle with the rest of the sugar and cinnamon — I didn't
use the full 1/2 cup sugar on mine because I like it tart / Cover with the second crust, pinching the edges and cutting some slits in the top / Bake at 425 for 15 minutes and then turn heat down to 350 for another 40 - 45 minutes until golden brown.
