With my dear friend an colleague Julie Tilsen, I have been writing and speaking on the
use of queer
theory with sexual and
gender minorities.
However, her critique of parental alienation as a concept or
theory as
used in family courts, consistent with the APA Report's critique, is that it is typically misused in a
gendered manner as a means of dismissing or denying abuse allegations brought by mothers.
Our counselors help clients improve their lives
using evidence - based practices including cognitive behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing techniques, trauma - informed care, social learning
theory and
gender - specific services.
Our findings are not necessarily discordant with the argument of
gender schema
theories [4] that parents»
gender - differentiated
use of controlling and autonomy supportive strategies is likely to be influenced by parents»
gender - role stereotypes.
Although classic
theories of homophily would suggest that other dimensions of structural similarity might shape sibling favoritism, a separate analysis conducted
