The second important requirement for such programmes is correct mapping of text (
hyphenation in accordance with the rules of your language, convenient display of footnotes, supporting of different styles that are
used in the titles, epigraphs, quotations, footnotes, the main text and opportunity to tune them for your covenience (read about parametres of fonts in details in section «Fonts of electonic books»).
Inconsistencies: Sometimes English allows a bit of latitude in spelling (British vs. American spellings),
hyphenation, numbers (writing them out or
using numerals) and capitalization.
And they'd
use the return key (or possibly the shift - return combination) to force a line break in the middle of the paragraph — to avoid

I'd bet that the Pratchett / Snuff typo was the result of
using an optional
hyphenation code or a non-breaking space or something equally silly; installed by a lazy typesetter to fix a run in a dead tree edition, missed when generating the output epub because it was (a) standards compliant (i.e.
used the right character codeset), (b) invisible to the naked eye when previewing the DTP file on screen, and (c) the epub reader they looked at the file in didn't have the same bug as Amazon's file filter and displayed it correctly.

hyphenation library whose main advantages are cross-browser support and multi-lingual support.
And if you've never
used it,
hyphenation looks strange at first.

use this type of justification in their opinions and briefs, respectively.
