GST is created for those bodybuilders looking for greater overall strength and size, not trying to re-shape a specific muscle group
using isolation movements.
Lifters are encouraged to work each set to failure without
using isolation movements.

Isolation movements are most effective when done with relatively light to moderate weights and high reps.. It is generally recommended that you
use these exercises at the end of your workouts as finishing
movements.
These should be placed at the beginning of the workout when the muscles are fresh and can be optimally
used; — Compound
movements; —
Isolation work during which you'll drain the last drop of energy from the muscle worked.
And lastly, there are the
isolation movements which are
used to stimulate specific muscle areas.
But there's an exception to this rule and it's called pre-exhaust training, or pre-tiring a certain muscle
using an
isolation exercise first and then finishing with multi-joint
movements.
Every day has a specific objective which are plotted and planned on a weekly basis
using very few, if any,
isolation movements.
Because compound
movements use many muscles together, they leave our muscles more depleted than
isolation exercises, which are much easier on the body as a whole.
To put it simply, compound exercises are
movements that
use more than one joint (squats, deadlifts, bench press, shoulder press, barbell row etc.), contrary to
isolation exercises that
use only one joint (think leg extensions, bicep curls and triceps extensions)
Do pre-exhaust sets to recruit more muscle fibers for
use during compound
movements and really tax your stronger muscle groups while shredding the
isolation areas.
Isolation exercises will focus on a single muscle primarily and are good to
use later but right now the compound
movements will bring in more muscle groups to get you growing.
Big, compound
movements such as the deadlift, squats, presses, chin ups and rows are superior to machine,
isolation - type
movements for toning up your thighs, butt and upper body as they allow you to
use challenging weight while training a number of muscle groups simultaneously.
This is as opposed to
isolation movements which will only
use one muscle (you guessed it) in
isolation.
For others
use isolation as it's needed to prevent injury and improve
movement.
Yet another rep - combining method is doing the basic exercises heavy, and the
isolation movements medium and high rep. Berry DeMay, Francis Benfatto and Joe DeAngelis
used this method.
You can also work your transverses abdominis, to pull your waist in tighter, by doing stomach vacuums but I suggest you don't work your abs directly with
isolation exercises, keep a strong core by performing compound
movements and
using free weights instead of machines.
Isolations movements can be more effective than compound exercises when
used appropriately, and knowing how and when to apply them is the key to incorporating them into your training
Dave Draper, Larry Scott, Sergio Oliva, and of course Arnold Schwarzenegger all employed
isolation movements, and today, anyone who takes physique building seriously has
used them.
A lot of guys want to jump into unique
isolation exercises, when in the early years they should really focus on mastering the basic compound
movements and get their joints and tendons
used to heavy weights.
He also was infamously known for
using a combination of compound and
isolation movements in his training, and for training with mostly moderate to high reps, rarely doing fewer than eight reps a set.
Compound
movements use more muscle groups, activate higher amounts of muscle fibers than
isolation exercises (i.e. curls), and as a result, release higher amounts of anabolic hormones (such as human growth hormone) in your body.
For this reason, consider a kettlebell set, which starts with a 53 pound kettlebell, which you will always be able to
use for a great workout with
isolation movements like presses and get ups.
The vastness and the wide angle lenses in certain moments, I think, intended to show the main character's sense of
isolation within his community, so we tried at times to
use framing devices and
use camera
movements to amplify that sentiment to have a very meaningful impact.
