My husband did some oneline research for cleaning stainless steel appliances; the highest recommendation came for
using an oil based cleaner such as Murphy's Oil Soap.
But we usually recommend
using oil based paint for cabinets.

using an oil based primer then a laxtex top coat on exteriors, I also know many that use an oil based primer on molding and trim pieces then latex top coat.
