Keanu Reeves, by comparison, seems stiffer than
usual as the film's ostensible
romantic lead, even as he continues to move as gracefully as ever.
The constant droning of sad classical music over 70 % of the film is highly manipulative. The
lead actress is toiling hard in the fields, yet at all times wears lipstick, foundation, rough and mascara.Even some of the males wear lipstick throughout.Everybody is drop dead gorgeous, no mud or gore in sight. The whole film is suffused with too much
romantic zeal and sentiment.The two
lead actors are excellent, but as
usual Tom Sturridge is poor.He fails to convince he could ever be the dashing colonial soldier with his thin, weedy style of acting. One star
