You could argue that the scale of these studios — and the salaries they pay assistants who are
usually aspiring artists themselves — are a critical part of London's art infrastructure and if the super-successful artists were not here, that support would be lacking.
I'm still struggling with my muted response to La La Land, to be honest, because I do love musicals, and
usually I do gravitate toward the kind of story Damien Chazelle tells: that of
aspiring artists balancing the vagaries of practical living with trying to pursue their passions.
