compared the
earning rates
of several major hotel chains to see which ones
earn you the most
value by
earning points when staying with them.
If you
value Hyatt
points at 1.5 cents per
point (which is on the low side) that's a return
of 8.25 % back, which is actually a very competitive
earning rate for bottom tier status
compared to Hilton, SPG, IHG, etc..

How I
compare: While many miles &
points enthusiasts (including myself)
earn a lot
of their
points with credit cards, not everybody wants to dive into that «hobby» or has access to the high -
value credit card offers in the USA.
Plus, get a
value of 1.5 cents per
point when you redeem through the Chase Ultimate Rewards travel portal (
compared to 1.25 cents per
point when you hold other UR -
earning cards).
Then
compare the potential discount with the
value you could get out
of the extra
points you'd
earn instead, and choose whichever will serve you better.
