We need to show up the foolishness of Modernity; On the Way to Lifeasks for «a Catholic Modernity» (pages 33, 51, 63...) It does not want this to be simply a Catholic version of Modernity (page 51); it does want us to incorporate many of the central
values of Modernity (page 63)-- but these include «commitment to rational discourse», which in fact has always been properly Catholic!
Like Marx, Weber saw the heavy toll that the structures and
values of modernity would continue to assess against the possibility of humanness.
Or, we need a new pattern which takes the good community values of the tradition and good
values of modernity, like freedom of human persons and equality between them.
Are not
