I pretty much followed the recipe with the exception of using
vanilla beans instead of extract.
Since I wanted the vanilla flavor to be front and center, I opted for real
vanilla bean instead of extract.
If you opt for
a vanilla bean instead of vanilla extract, boil with scraped vanilla seeds and a vanilla pod all together and then strain the syrup when it's still hot.
The glaze sounds scrumptious... any excuse to use
a vanilla bean instead of extract!

You could definitely substitute vanilla extract, but I tend to notice the slight alcoholic taste, which is why I opted for
a vanilla bean instead.
I'm going to use ground
vanilla bean instead of protein powder or vanilla extract as a concession to my food allergies, but that shouldn't change how they come out at all:)

Instead of using
vanilla powder, I actually just cut a small part straight out of the
vanilla bean.

vanilla bean powder in the bowl of a food processor (if using liquid
vanilla extract, don't add it yet, but save it to add with the stevia
instead).
Don't let the «spent»
vanilla bean pods go to waste — make
vanilla - scented sugar

I made some changes due to suggestions below, & also due to not having red wine or berries: - doubled the recipe (but changed milk: buttermilk ratio to 1:3 since I had extra buttermilk, and I dislike a lot of sweetness)- used almond milk since that's what I had - and since I used extra buttermilk, the richness wasn't compromised -
