I created an farmhouse look to mine by staining it first with
Varathane weathered wood accelerator.
Using a foam brush I coat the inside of my small closet floor
with Varathane tripe thick.
Finally I gave it 3 coats
of Varathane Diamond Wood Finish Outdoor spray.

Varathane Matte Finish Polyurethane.
The dresser was previously painted for Jackie's sister in shades of pink and purple (I can't find my «before» pics anywhere but you can imagine) so I painted over it using Annie Sloan's «Napoleonic Blue» Chalk Paint then added two coats coat of clear water - based satin
Varathane on top.
Our local store is right down the road... I was just in there yesterday - stocking up on
Varathane sealers, contact cement, wood glue and wrapping twine... GREAT place to browse!!
Other than that my only advice is to seal it with something suitable for floors, like
Varathane floor finish or maybe Waterlox.

If I were to do wood planks I would probably seal them with a matte poly after staining (
Varathane makes a matte water based poly that works great).

Sometimes... depending on the piece... I will also seal it with a coat of poly or
varathane after washing to give it some added freshness while sealing in some of it's «patina»
Do you remember what brand Polyurethane you used, you said Water - based, was it
Rustoleum Varathane Fastest Drying Polyurethane?
