Furthermore, the U.S. has
a variety of doctrines that make it hard to find that a false statement was made in the first place.
The manifold
variety of doctrines which could be encountered in early Greek philosophy and in the early Hellenistic age was abandoned (though to some extent revived in Gnostic circles), and in its place came a fairly uniform teaching, largely Stoic in origin, which laid emphasis on the four virtues of justice, courage, sobriety and understanding, and was addressed by preachers to individuals.
Not doing so has presented the «church» with a frightening
variety of doctrines based on the same portions of Scripture.
In spite of the seeming
variety of doctrines, one basic principle was accepted by almost all philosophical theists.
