The simple fact that we have a canon of Scripture, which was compiled and organized by
various early Church Fathers, and became a tradition, shows that we must, to some degree, accept and depend upon some forms of Church Tradition.
Passages that were originally written for groups of people, and intended to be read and applied in a community setting (the nation of Israel,
the various early churches, the first followers of Jesus), have been manipulated to communicate a personal, individual message... thus leading the reader away from the original corporate intent of the passage to a reaffirmation of the individualistic, me - centered, and consumerist tendencies of American religious culture.

We may say that a motif which can be detected in a multiplicity of strands of tradition and in
various forms (pronouncement stories, parables, sayings, etc.) will have a high claim to authenticity, always provided that it is not characteristic of an activity, interest or emphasis of the
earliest Church.
In broad outline, therefore, it appears that the ethical teaching given by the
early church was pretty closely related to the general movement in Greco - Roman society towards the improvement of public morals as it was undertaken in the first century by
various agencies.
In the
early history of the
church, when the New Testament was getting translated from Greek into Latin, there was no clear equivalent in Latin for ekklēsia, and so
various terms were proposed.
These texts and studies do not exhaust the
various ways in which women were perceived, and their roles commented upon, by writers of the
early church, but they offer points of departure for a discussion on the contribution of women to the life and witness of the
early church without forgetting that the «ancient sources and modern historians agree that primary conversion to Christianity was far more prevalent among females than among males» [13] in the time of the

various statements, there is Hodgson's further remark — which those of us who were his students vividly recall — that we must always ask something like this: «What must the truth be for us now, if people like that» — he was referring both to biblical writers and theologians in the past history of the
Church --» «put it in the way they did?»
There the Brunner Foundation, in cooperation with the theological faculty of the university and
various church and civic groups, is sponsoring a series of lectures and festivities which began in
early November with three public forums, followed by an «Emil Brunner Faculty Day» on November 29.
